Chinsekikan — Hall of Curious Rocks

珍石館 — "Hall of Curious Rocks", a tiny private museum of jinmenseki (rocks that naturally look like human faces). Founder Shoji Hayama spent 50+ years collecting them and opened the museum in 1990; his daughter Yoshiko now runs it. Over 1,700 rocks, ~900 of them face rocks — all 100% natural, unaltered (that was his only rule). Labeled likenesses include Elvis Presley, an Easter Island moai, sumo wrestlers, "Christ" mounted on a wooden cross, and a pirate rock in a hat and eyepatch. About 2h northwest of Tokyo; near Kagemori Station (Chichibu Railway). Open ~9:00/10:00–17:00, closed Tuesdays; ¥400 adults / ¥200 kids. Phone 0494-24-7288.
