キチキチ — the most famous omurice restaurant in Japan, in the Pontocho alley near Sanjo. Chef Motokichi Yukimura's theatrical tableside performance went viral: a dome of demi-fried rice, a fluffy tornado omelette rolled in the pan, then sliced open edge-to-edge so it flows down over the rice ("fuwafuwa-torotoro" inside, thin outside), finished with a surprisingly light house demi-glace. Reservation only (books out far ahead), 1-hour seating. Omurice ¥2,700 (small ¥1,450); budget ~¥3,000/person. 3-min walk from Sanjo Station. Hours: Mon–Fri 17:00–21:00; Sat/Sun/holidays 12:00–14:00 & 17:00–21:00.
